The Heritage Corridor Region 3 Discovery Center in Blackville, South Carolina is just one region of the full South Carolina National Heritage Corridor. This is not only a museum or a national park, but also an entire community of conservation and historical tribute. Here you and the family can enjoy beautiful rural landscapes as well as tributes to old American heritage. This is a trip of substance over style.
The Heritage Corridor Region 3 Discovery Center in Blackville dedicates much of its area to rivers of South Carolina, railroads and crossroads. Some of these railroads played an important role in shaping counties like Aiken, Barnwell, Bamberg and Orangeburg. In addition, the Discovery Center also has exhibits for Horse Creek Valley, a significant site where industrialization became ingrained in southern culture, as well as the Savannah River Site, which at one time was a center for holding nuclear weapons.
Lastly, you can enjoy exhibits on Union Army General William T. Sherman, as well as important battles like the Battle of Rivers Bridge, the Battle of Broxton’s Bridge and the Battle of Aiken. This center offers some nice gifts, important education and an all around relaxing day off for South Carolina tourists.
