It used to be an exclusive luxury reserved for the rich and the famous, but these days, virtually anyone can enjoy a drive in a high-end sports cars, such as a Ferrari or Lamborghini, at a variety of professional racing tracks in Spain. The most popular circuits are Montmeló near Barcelona and el Jarama near Madrid due to their prime locations and rich racing histories. However, as you will see later in this article, there are a number of other jewels that are worthy of your attention!
The Circuit of Cataluña Montmeló
Without a doubt, the most famous circuit in all of Spain is Montmeló. It has held the Spanish Grand Prix since 1991 and in recent years has become popular as a winter testing ground for Formula One teams.
Drivers will be confronted with unique challenges such as difficult breaking sections, an exciting mix of slow and fast corners, as well as a variety of slopes and climbs.
To get the full experience of driving at a grand prix level circuit and to follow the path of some of Formula One’s most legendary names, then Montmeló is definitely the ideal choice.
The circuit of Jarama, Madrid
Jarama’s circuit, which is located near Madrid, also has a history to be proud of. It has held the Spanish Gran Prix 11 times between 1967 and 1981. Superstars of Formula One racing history such as Nicki Lauda and James Hunt have all taken the checkered flag here. With its numerous elevations and difficult twisting corners, Jarama is among the most demanding circuits in Spain.
The ‘Pegaso Slope’ and ‘Bugati Drop’ are iconic names in Spanish racing and at Jarama you get to experience them for yourself. This circuit is a serious challenge – it demands plentyof nerve, skill, and commitment behind the wheel.
Cheste, Valencia
This circuit was named after one of Valencia’s most celebrated racing sons, motorcycling legend Ricardo Tormo. The moderate winter climate, and the thrilling, quick track make Cheste a favorite circuit for teams testing Formula One cars in the off season.
There is a nice mix of fast and slow curves as well as an exciting straight of 876 meters.. It’s known too for being one of Spain’s few circuits that drive counterclockwise. We guarantee an intensive, difficult drive!
The Navarra Circuit
Opened in 2010, the Navarra circuit is the youngest circuit in Spain. Super League Formula is one of the high quality events that it already hosts and more will no doubt be added to the calender in the near future. The on-site amenities are impressive as you might expect from a modern, newly constructed track.
There are thirteen corners, five of them left and eight of them right and an 800 meter straight which is perfect for generating some real, speed and acceleration!
Circuit of Kotarr
Opened in 2008, the circuit at Kotarr can take on various layouts, depending on the vehicles involved and sort of event that is being held. One other noteworthy characteristic is that Kotarr is the only Spanish racing track where it is possible to drive in icy, rainy weather.
The extended edition of the track is made up of a variety quick and slow corners – a total of fifteen – with design inevitably producing some enjoyable and aggressive driving. There are many challenging turns and long straights, perfect for putting the pedal to the metal.
Circuit of Jerez
Another racing track with a notable pedigree is Jerez, having hosted the Spanish Grand Prix between 1986 and 1990. It has developed a well deserved reputation since its inauguration for being one of the quickest and best tracks in the country.
A wide, quick track, you will need nerves of steel and plenty of skill to negotiate famous corners like Sito Pons or Alex Crivillé. What’s more, the track is relatively flat and doesn’t have any blind corners, which makes it one of the drivers’ favorites.
