Many aspire to world travel but often don’t know where to begin. With so much to see, it’s important to have a plan and many have made it their goal to glimpse the Seven Wonders of the World during their lifetime. Since it takes a lot of time and money to see the innumerable beautiful and interesting places in the world, narrowing the list is wise and getting the needed passport is as easy as going to your computer and filling out an online passport application. Only one of the original Seven Wonders of the World still exists on the Seven Wonders list and that is the Great Pyramids of Giza. What was originally called the Seven Wonders of the World is now named the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This new list has been compiled and presents the best “new” wonders.

The first new wonder is Victoria Falls in Africa. It is created by the Zambezi River and is in both Zambia and Zimbabwe. At twice as high as Niagara Falls and twice as wide as Horseshoe Falls, Victoria Falls is one of the largest waterfalls in the world. Seeing it in person is truly breathtaking, and it’s easy to see why it’s native name is “The Smoke That Thunders.”

The second wonder is found in the United States so an American passport is not required. The Grand Canyon is located in Arizona and is the chosen vacation destination of many both inside and outside the United States. A visit will show you the power of millions of years carving by the Colorado River.

Number three on the list is the Great Barrier Reef which is located off the coast of Australia in the Coral Sea. While it is know to be the largest reef system in the world, it is actually more than 1,600 miles of 2,900 individual reefs. This formation creates a site that is even visible from outer space.

The fourth New Wonder of the World is the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Considered the largest Art Deco statue in the world, it stands at a staggering 130 feet tall and nearly 100 feet wide with his arms outstretched. This statue stands looking down over Rio from the peak of the 2,300 foot tall Mount Corcovado.

Mount Everest is a tower number five and is known to be the highest location on the face of the earth. Reaching 29,002 feet, a family vacation to this location would consist of a breathing view from the summit but to the experienced mountain climber, it presents a challenge of a lifetime.

The sixth wonder is a sight rather than a site. The Aurora, or the Northern Lights, is best visible from Canada and other northern latitudes. Witnessing first hand the lights dancing in the sky is something that can’t be missed.

Finally, new wonder number seven is Paricitun, a Mexican volcano found in the middle of Michoacan, Mexico. Many flock to this Mexican lava-covered community to get a photo op with this new wonder.
