The international psyche has been damaged beyond repair by the violence terrorism has unleashed. While acts of terror are thousands of years old and were even written about as long ago as 2000 years by a great Chinese expert on war, they have nevertheless gained a greater notoriety of late. This translates to an even greater emphasis on proper documentation of individuals who participate in the global transportation system so a lost or stolen USA passport must be dealt with immediately.
There are multiple reasons why it is important to keep personal documentation with you while traveling. Should any type of emergency come up or should you fall victim to an injury or disease that would render you unconscious, it is your paperwork that would get you to the correct government agency. In many countries it is to your advantage to be cared for by individuals from your own country. This is especially true when visiting countries less developed than your own.
It is a sad stereotype that immigrants are usually destitute and represent at best competition for employment opportunity, and at worst the outright importation of poverty. And the economy is strong, and jobs are plentiful immigrants fill the lower echelon of the workforce providing cheap labor and supporting inexpensive goods.
When the economy of a nation struggles, however, immigrants are the first to bear the brunt of citizens’ frustrations. It is disingenuous to believe that any native population truly has any desire to engage in the jobs immigrants perform, nonetheless there is the feeling they cannot contribute as much as they receive. This notion that they are bleeding the national economy of education and health benefits is a major political concern.
There are methods for foreign nationals to gain legal immigration into any country, but the process is usually long and involved and must be followed carefully. For that reason protecting your travel documentation is a primary responsibility throughout your voyage. Because your passport identifies you as a citizen of your home country, it affords you special protections that are extremely important.
The current environment is even more complex given the many nations involved in the war on terror and the increased security stance officials in every country must exercise. As travel documents are improved and become more sophisticated, terror networks become equally creative in their attempt to circumvent travel restrictions. With new trends towards recruiting individuals from other countries to fight their battles, immigration officials have a difficult task.
Even if the documentation does not fall into the hands of a criminal, the loss of proper paperwork will make the rest of your vacation very difficult to conclude. Reporting the loss to officials is of course necessary but will not guarantee when you could expect to have them expediently replaced. This is especially true these days with microchips containing the biometrics of each individual imprinted in the passport.
The primary reason to safeguard your pass port is that there are people who would love to get their hands on it. Having your passport as a template from which to duplicate greatly simplifies their efforts. So if you experience a lost or stolen pasport, immediately report it to the authorities.
